UAE wins top polluter spot

Confirmation of what I’ve blogged previously, the United Arab Emirates was heralded the world’s leading polluter – not that it’s something to brag about.

An index of 183 countries shows the UAE to be pumping out the most CO2 on the planet.

Interestingly though, my country of origin Australia took second place.

For the record, these carbon emissions have nothing to do with me.

‘Green Shaikh’ says it’s time for Ajman to make changes

It’s good to see the environment is starting to get some attention in the UAE. Shaikh Abdul Aziz Bin Ali Al Nuaimi, from the ruling family in Ajman calling himself the Green Shaikh, helps promote the cause.

“two-thirds of the youth in the UAE — Emirati and expatriate — have no idea about their carbon footprint and what they could do to minimise it.”

the average UAE resident creates one of the largest carbon footprints in the world

Despite this tidbit from the latest issue of the World Bank’s Little Green Data Book, Abu Dhabi has put in a strong bid to host the International Renewable Energy Agency (Irena).

Guess it may have to be a case of do as I say, not as I do.
